چکیده

The article deals with an improved treatment of wall models for the simulation turbulent flows in framework Immersed Wall Boundaries on Cartesian grids. emphasis is put implementation a Lattice-Boltzmann Method solver without loss generality, since proposed approach can be used Navier–Stokes-based solvers straightforward way. model relies combination several key elements, namely i) removal grid points too close to solid surface and ii) original computation normal velocity gradient iii) interpolation scheme. new method successfully assessed considering URANS simulations focusing steady solutions Zero Pressure Gradient flat plate boundary layer flow around NACA0012 airfoil at angles attack.

Free Surface Flows with Moving and Deforming Objects for LBM

We will present an algorithm to handle moving and deforming objects for free surface fluid simulations with the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). To achieve this we extend methods available for flows without a free surface to enables simulations of moving objects with varying surface roughness, two-way coupled interaction and improved mass conservation. We furthermore show how to efficiently init...

The aerodynamic wall

We study the trajectory of dense projectiles subjected to gravity and drag at large Reynolds number. We show that two types of trajectories can be observed: if the initial velocity is smaller than the terminal velocity of free fall, we observe the classical Galilean parabola: if it is larger, the projectile decelerates with an asymmetric trajectory first drawn by Tartaglia, which ends with a ne...

Shear-improved Smagorinsky model for large-eddy simulation of wall-bounded turbulent flows

A shear-improved Smagorinsky model is introduced based on recent results concerning shear effects in wall-bounded turbulence by Toschi et al. (2000). The Smagorinsky eddyviscosity is modified as νT = (Cs∆) (|S|−|〈S〉|): the magnitude of the mean shear |〈S〉| is subtracted to the magnitude of the instantaneous resolved strain-rate tensor |S|; here CS is the standard Smagorinsky constant and ∆ deno...

Turning Flows into Trees: Graph Analytics for Aerodynamic Flows

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) provides valuable simulation tools to the industry. In recent years, the development of the underlying algorithms and hardware resulted in a steep increase in the size of the data generated by CFD-solvers. The resulting I/O bottleneck can be alleviated by the use of contour trees : trees that capture the nesting relationship of isosurfaces of scalar fields, an...

Feedback Control of Aerodynamic Flows

Every airplane has an associated external flow field that is extraordinarily rich in terms of its flow physics. It is intuitively obvious that the shape and configuration of the airplane influences the external flow physics, and the nature of the flow field influences the aerodynamic performance. An airplane is designed to perform optimally under certain operating conditions. Its aerodynamic pe...
